Great Muskoka Paddling Experience - October 8th
Looking for some fun and adventure this Thanksgiving Weekend?The Muskoka Watershed Council is holding the Great Muskoka Paddling Experience this Saturday October 6th at Annie Williams Park in Bracebridge.
Racers of all skill levels will compete along 12 or 20 kilometer routes on the Muskoka River. Registration begins at 8 AM and is closed at 10 AM, and runs $25 for adults and $15 for racers under seventeen.
Information booths will be abound for those who wish to spectate, and the MTC will be there, so come by and say hello!

Past Events
Muskoka's Third Annual Amazing Race
For the third year running, the MTC put teams through their paces as they raced across part of Muskoka for a chance to win big. There were 20 teams in the running, but in the end brothers Peter and Dion Yungblut of team Super Heroes 3D (the previous year's runners up) took first place... and two MEC Mountain Bikes.
This years event focused on the Georgian Bay area and started at the Delawana Inn before heading to MacTier. Teams were tasked with some railroad puzzles, ecological trivia (curtosy of the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve) and some medical work before finding the finish line. The leg's winners, Alisa Drouillard and Laura Jackson, along with the top fundraisers, Don Price and Marlene Harper, headed to the next destination in style: flying on a float plane curtosy of Georgian Bay Airways.
In Port Severn teams canoed, biked and dashed through their tasks at Rawley Resort, Severn Suds, Lock 45 and the School House Walk Trail before arriving at Macey's Bay.
Under the eye of Erin Burton, teams then raised money for KICX/The Dock's Radio for Radiology by painting and selling their renditions of AJ Casson's "The White Pine". Ultimately they raised over $1200 to fund the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre.
Finally teams cruised to Georgian Bay Islands National Park, landing on Big Beausoleil. Teams channelled their inner camper as they navigated trails, searched for "wildlife", found campsites, chopped wood, hauled water and set up tents. One photo op later and they made their way to the finish line.
Thanks to our sponsors no one walked away empty handed: teams won camping gear, event tickets, dinners, passes, rounds of golf and other awersome prizes.

Hike with Fathers
Taking place on Saturday May 28th, 2011 at Kerr Park in Bracebridge and at Avery Beach in Huntsville, the second annual Hike with Fathers event, in partnership with Muskoka Family Focus and Muskoka Fathering Coalition, was a huge success! Map Clip Assembly Party
On November 19th, 2010, over 40 volunteers helped to assemble almost 4,000 map clips! Thank you to everyone who came and helped - it was a fun evening and a great opportunity to share some of the upcoming projects and events Muskoka Trails Council is working on for 2011. There are now four committees established to begin working on many of the projects and events. They are: Funding Committee, Promotion Committee, Events Committee, and Healthy Communities Committee. Muskoka's Second Annual Amazing Race
Baysville, Milford Bay and Port Carling were the host villages to this year's very challenging race! 34 contestants ran a total of 312 kilometres, swam 6800 metres, treaded water for 100 minutes, ate 17 cups of chocolate pudding, drank 15 gallons of water, planted 25 native shrubs, packed 1 skid of beer, and a whole host of other fun activities! This year's group raised over $7,000 in donations and we partnered with over 50 amazing local businesses and organizations to create another awesome event throughout some of Muskoka's natural playgrounds!
With two divisions this year, congratulations goes out to the following teams!

Hike with Fathers
Muskoka Trails Council partnered with Muskoka Family Focus and Muskoka Fathering Coalition to host a hike and scavenger hunt 'Hike with Fathers' on May 15, 2010. More than 40 people attended! Parry Sound - Muskoka MPP, Norm Miller, and Ontario Trillium Foundation representative, Teri Souter, were also on hand to kick off the 'Hike with Fathers' with a recognition of the grant awarded to the Muskoka Trails Council to fund their regional trails coordinator position for 2010.
MTC Annual General Meeting
Muskoka Trails Council hosted its Annual General Meeting on March 27, 2010 at The Lakehouse, Nipissing University, Bracebridge, Ontario. Great ideas, good discussion, and progressive & creative partnering! Thanks to all who attended! More information coming soon!
Trails and The Near North
The MTC took 2009 as an opportunity to unite with our neighboring communities and to learn from one another. Our event series "Trails and the Near North" involved two meetings and area representatives from Haliburton, North Bay, and Parry Sound. Together we discussed various trails topics, with a focus on Active Transportation.

- Gain insight into the direction of policy, and network with key players.
- Determine trends for better practices with regards to active transportation.
- Obtain a perspective on what our neighbouring communities are doing to encourage active transportation
Muskoka's First Annual Amazing Race
Our 2009 summer event was a huge success for our organization. 50 teams of 2 raced across Muskoka in an event modeled after the hit television show, The Amazing Race. We are happy to announce that we fund raised over $10,000 for our organization, we will be putting those funds directly back into trail initiatives.
